We have created this page to inform consumers of the truth about tobacco taxes. Tobacco taxes are a "hidden" tax. You do not pay a percentage of the sales price as you do with sales tax. It's not detailed on your paystub as with income tax and you do not get a statement from the appraisal district as you do with property tax. Instead, tobacco taxes are built into the cost of the product and unless someone tells you how much tax you paid on a pack of cigarettes or a can of snuff or your fine cigars you won't know. Since tobacco taxes are built into the cost of the product, you also pay sales tax on the tobacco tax. That doesn't sound very fair does it? We don't think so either.
We have included a very helpful link the RTDA website (Retail Tobacco Dealers Of America) and a link to NoCigTax.com. Once there you can easily find the contact information for your federal legislators and urge them to vote against this legislation.
